Set in the stunning setting of Norwich Cathedral Close (pictured above), Norwich School is a traditional, yet lively place where boys and girls enjoy a rounded and stimulating education. Creativity is very much at the heart of the school and the Design Department is no exception to this. Specialising in Photography, Film, Graphic Design, Fine Art, Art Craft & Design and 3D design, whose pupils work is showcased here.
Pupils have a huge wealth of opportunities to explore and nurture their skills in a huge variety of mediums. We are always looking to the future for how we can interpret ideas and so the department and school has and continue to invested heavily in resources. We were fortunate enough to have had a major redevelopment of the Carter Centre a couple of years ago and this has enabled us to diversify further the mediums on offer and give pupils professional facilities to utilise.
As a 3D Department we have a beautiful new workshop, textiles space, woodwork shop and two digital design studios equipped with Mac computers and industry standard 2D & 3D software.
Our workshop and textiles space are truly the ‘jewel in the crown’, which allow pupils to work in a huge range of materials and media including but not limited to, silversmithing, jewellery, body adornment, architecture, furniture design, product design, fashion textiles, constructed textiles and sculpture.
Some of the equipment that pupils are able to learn to utilise are as follows: 2x Laser cutters, 3D printer, well equipped and bespoke jewellery benches each fitted with pendant motors, soldering/ brasing station, micro welding, photo-etching, electroforming, MIG & TIG welding, Plasma Cutting, rolling mill, hydraulic press, sublimation printing, sewing machines, knitting machine, variety of wood work sanders, bandsaws, metal linisher, wood & metalwork lathe… to name but a few.
We are very proud of our pupils and their achievements and maintain one of the highest track records for pupil attainment at GCSE & A-Level in the school and nationally. A majority of our pupils achieve an 8 or 9 at GCSE or A* at A-level and go on to study in some of the countries most prestigious art colleges such as; London College of Fashion, St Martins, Goldsmiths College, Loughborough, Oxford Brookes (architecture) and Cambridge University.
